Two more ślokas from Hevajra Tantra

The sanskrit text:
yena yena hi badhyante jantavo raudrakarmaṇā |

sopāyena tu tenaiva mucyante bhavabandhanāt ||

rāgeṇa badhyate loko rāgeṇaiva vimucyate |
viparītabhāvanā hyeṣā na jñātā buddhatīrthakaiḥ ||

Few notes here. I initially translated buddhatīrthaka by "non Buddhists" because I found in the dictionary "MW - an adherent or head of any other than one's own creed Buddh. Jain." as a meaning for tīrthika. I had some doubts from the very start but I had to translate it one way or the other. Now, thanks to Mr. Iain Sinclair who took some time to comment on this issue on his blog, I adopted the current translation.

The english translation:
50.
By terrible magical act by which certainly
the living beings are bound

accompanied by the that very [act]
they are freed from the binding of the existence.

51.
By passion the world is tied,
by passion also it is freed.

This inverted causality
is not known b
y "tantraphobic" Buddhists.

Hevajra tantra śloka

ekārākṛti yaddivyaṃ madhyevaṃkāra bhūṣitam |
ālayaḥ sarvasaukhyānāṃ buddharatnakaraṇḍakam ||

ekārākṛti=N. sg. the shape of the letter "e";
yad=N.sg. which;
divyaṃ=N. sg. celestial, divine;

vaṃkāra=the sillable vaṃ;

Here is mine translation of this sanskrit verse:

The divine shape of the letter "e",
which is in the center [and] adorned by "vaṃ" sillable

I start today an ambitious enterprise to exercise the translation of a śloka each day.
Today's śloka is from Bhagavad-Gītā

adhibhūtaṃ ca kiṃ proktamadhidaivaṃ kimucyate || BG 8.1

A piece of tantric ritual

I'll give here a bit of the ritual from Vajrabhairavatantra. This ritual extends in the entire second chapter but I'll translate only two phrases.

Here is the Sanskrit text:

tatredaṃ karma yadā sādhayitukāmaḥ tadā śmaśānakarpaṭe viṣarudhireṇa lavaṇarājikānimbadhutturakarasena idaṃ ṣoḍaśakoṣṭhaṃ mahāvajrabhairavacakraṃ bṛhatkākasya pakṣeṇa lekhanyā [narāsti lekhanyā] vā dakṣiṇābhimukho nagno muktaśikho bhūtvā mahiṣamukhayogena likhet |
...............
pūrvokta saha dravyeṇa1 (pūrvoktadravyeṇa saha) kākocchiṣṭena vairocanena śmaśānakarpaṭe stambhayitvā(tib. abhyaṅgaya) tatra likhet cakraṃ pūrvoktavidhānena
...............

Now the translation:

Next this rite. When the performer desire then on the garments of the cremation ground, using blood poisoned by a juice of salt, mustard(sk. rājikā, lat Sinapis Ramosa), thorn apple (dhusturaka/Datura), neem (nimba), with a quill from a big crow or a pen, being naked, with the hair in disorder and facing south he should draw this 16 room wheel of the great vajrabhairava.
....................
Having rubbed [himself] with the substance previously specified, food remains of a crow, urine (sk. vairocana code name for urine) on the pyre garments he should draw there the wheel(cakra) with the disposition previously described.


Note 1:
"pūrvoktadravya" here might be "kaṭutaila" which might mean 'stinky oil' or 'sour oil' cf MW 'white mustard'. However Bulcsu Siklos translated this form Tibetan as "warm butter".

Yogāvatāraḥ - 1

namastārāyai

śrutvā śāstramudāraṁ niścitya pāramārthikaṁ tattvam|

mṛdvāsanopaviṣṭaḥ saśraddho yogamārabhed [yogī]||1||

śrutvā=hearing; śāstram=recitation; udāraṁ=excelent; niścitya=being convinced; pāramārthikaṁ=N. sg. one who cares for truth; tattvam=Ac. sg. the truth (N. sg. the real);

mṛdv-āsana-upaviṣṭaḥ=N sg. soft-sitting-seated; saśraddho=N. sg. confident; yogam=Ac. sg. yoga [teaching]; ārabhed=opt. 3 sg. [he] should undertake [yogī] =N. sg. [the yogi]

Obeisance to [goddess] Tārā

[After] hearing the excellent recitation (śāstram) [and] being convinced, the real (tattvam) [yogi] who cares for truth (pāramārthikaṁ) [being] seated on a soft seat (mṛdvāsanopaviṣṭaḥ), confident should undertake yoga [practice].

Coulson reloaded

Couple of days ago I was planning to set aside [for awhile] the Coulson's "Teach yourself...", when a friend came and forced me to a second though. Here is one of the exercises from Coulson "reloaded":

Bakula garland, you are [my] friend, that's why I welcome you!

Pretty simple isn't it?
Not for me. At a first try I got upakāriṇy as locative of upakārin which makes no sense for me. Beside this, is pretty strange that someone is talking to a garland. :D
